CAPPA are proud to be coordinating the PROTEMIC MSCA Doctoral Network on Integrated Spectroscopy for Protein Analysis. Applications are now open for 12 double-degree PhD positions within the network, with an application deadline of 31st January 2025.
There is a major need for Dynamic Monitoring of Protein Structural Changes. Proteins are complex biopolymers that form the fundamental building blocks of life. The structure of proteins is crucial in determining how they behave, and this structure can change under different conditions. These deviations lead to loss of function, loss of therapeutic effectiveness, increased immunogenicity or reduced product shelf life. Hence, medicine and pharmaceutical industries have an unmet need for dynamic, in-situ monitoring of proteins, for quality control and accelerated drug discovery.
PROTEMIC brings together the disciplines of Physics, Analytical Chemistry and Biotechnology to address this critical issue. This video gives a quick overview:
The network is currently advertising to fill 12 Doctoral Candidate (PhD) Positions. Fellowships are for a maximum of 45 months; for each DC the recruitment will be split between two partner institutes, spending a minimum of 1 year at each partner. DCs will be awarded double degrees, i.e. a degree from both co-host institutes (similar to the ‘co-tutelle’ model). In the case of non-academic recruiting partners, the degree will be awarded by a linked academic partner. The PROTEMIC partners are:
- Munster Technological University, Ireland
- Technische Universität Wien, Austria
- nanoplus Advanced Photonics Gerbrunn GmbH, Germany
- InsuCaps Limited, Ireland
- Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork, Ireland
- Health Research Institute La Fe, Spain
- Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics, Germany
- Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Germany
- Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland (Associated Partner)
- Universitat de València, Spain (Associated Partner)
