The Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis (CAPPA) was delighted to recently host its Innovation through Light Month as part of Munster Technological University (MTU) Innovation and Enterprise Month 2022. The event ran from 10.30 – 11.15 on the 3rd, 10th, 24th and 31st of March for primary school students from 4th – 6th class. The event gave an overview of photonics and how innovation works through light in everyday life. The event also highlighted the importance of photonics in innovation and enterprise and how it affects our day – day lives.
The month focused on giving an overview of physics, chemistry and photonics as well as conducting experiments in the classroom and at home for the students. At the end of the month, there was a quiz for all the students involved with wining prizes of Microscopes for all the schools. The winning prizes of microscopes mean the students can continue to study once the month is over. As well as prizes for the winning schools, each participating school received a science pack for all students and teachers.
There was over 240 students involved throughout the Innovation and Enterprise Month. Scoil Iosagain Aghada National School won the overall prize of a state of the art microscope for their school. Below are some images of the schools participating with some of the experiments that were conducted throughout the month.
